Nursing Assistant (NA)-Rockford CBOC

The Nursing Assistant (NA) is located at the Rockford CBOC in Rockford, IL under the Madison VAMC Healthcare System. The NA provides direct patient care activities under the supervision of the RN, LPN, and other Providers within the Primary Care Clinics. The NA is trained for the specific function of phlebotomy and maybe also be trained for other functions such as 12-lead EKG's, bladder scans, and ear lavage on primary care clinic needs. Assists with/performs appropriate nursing tasks for patients including but not limited to:
Performs phlebotomy and all other specimen collection following the established policies Completes established processes and procedures to accession, manifest, and prepare for specimen transport to the main facility laboratory Provide and complete plan of care orders within scope of practice and demonstrated competency (i.e. EKG, ear lavage, bladder scan, etc) Maintains the physical privacy and dignity of each patient while performing specimen collection and other nursing tasks Obtains vitals Nail Care within the nail care grid Obtains weights, heights, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, blood glucose (finger stick), level of pain and records them appropriately in the medical record. Is able to distinguish significant variances in vital signs, pain, and finger sticks and reports them to the responsible RN, LPN, or Provider Assists with glucometer download and data uploading into the electronic medical record Provide patients with the appropriate level of assistance with activities of transferring, ambulating, and toileting Responds to and asssists during emergency treatments situations obtaining equipment as necessary and running errands as needed Assists in emergency situations including, but not limited to CPR as needed Answers call lights promptly and in person Assists the nurse/MD/NP during procedures/treatments as needed following appropriate standards and guidelines and includes, but is not limited to serving as a chaperone Responsible for following all Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) guidelines Completes all required Nursing Assistant initial and annual competency requirements Assists the team in reinforcing educational needs with patients Consistently follows the Plan of Care for each patient Perform one to one observation as assigned Maintains positive and constructive professional working relationships with patients, families, medical staff, volunteers, and co-workers Transports or accompany patients as assigned to areas in the clinic Follows all infection control procedures and established Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and guidelines Complies with Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals Other duties as assigned Work Schedule:

Experience:
Possess an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant OR Education:
Completed one year above high school with courses related to the occupation. Preferred

One year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-4 level which demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities that are directly related to the specific assignment. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSA's below; OR Education:
Successful completion of a 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included 24 semester hours of courses related to health care or possession of a bachelor's degree; AND Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long term care or outpatient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocation Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. 2. Ability to communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel. This includes serving as a preceptor to new nursing assistants by assisting with coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. 3. Ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. For example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis, etc. References:

Physical requirements include extensive periods of standing and walking. Duties involve strenuous physical exertion on a regular basis. Patient care activities require regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, pushing and similar activities using appropriate body mechanics and other assistive devices for patient and/or equipment movement and transfer. The employee protects self and others from injury. Considerable agility and dexterity is required to provide care in a proper and safe manner.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
